of Courses
ARCIS offers a 2-year (four semesters) Master of Information Science (MInfSc) degree
programme. Students
take courses during the initial two semesters, are placed on industrial attachment with reputed
organizations during the third semester, and return for more courses and their projects in the final semester.
The programme prepares its graduates for professional jobs and careers in the information industry, or for the
M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in information science also offered by the
Centre.
Admission
Requirements
Required qualification for admission to the master's programme is a good bachelor's degree. Although
admission is competitive, applicants from English-speaking West African (Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana,
Liberia, and Sierra Leone) and other African countries are usually offered admission.

ARCIS is presently not able to provide scholarships to
its students, but the MinfSc degree programme is eligible for scholarship/bursary programmes offered by
various international organizations (e.g. the Commonwealth, Unison), and prospective applicants are
advised to contact such organizations for needed financial support.
Details of admission requirements and other information are advertised annually in Nigerian newspapers along
with other postgraduate programmes of the University of Ibadan. You can also order for a copy of our detailed
prospectus by sending us 500.00 Naira in Nigerian Money Order (if in Nigeria), or US$5.00 in International Money
Order (if overseas) to cover the cost of the prospectus and postage. The money order should be made payable to
'ARCIS, University of Ibadan, Nigeria'.

Request for applications forms should normally be directed to the Secretary, The Postgraduate School,
University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Application forms cost 4,000.00 Naira (about US$25.00) each. However, ARCIS can
help applicants from African countries (other than Nigeria) to obtain the forms for US$40.00 (cost of form
plus postage). The amount should be in crossed International Money Order made payable to 'ARCIS,
University of Ibadan, Nigeria'. Such forms should also be sent to ARCIS for onward transfer to the Postgraduate
School of the University.

Registration
requirements
1. Students
must register for a minimum of 46 units and a maximum of 52 units of courses at the 700-level, including all compulsory and required
courses.
2. The compulsory courses, denoted by the letter (C), are:
FSC 711, 712, 713, 715, 716, 721, 724, 725, 741, 744, 755,
761, 762 = 34 units
3. The required courses, denoted by the letter (R), are:
FSC 731, 736, 753, 756 = 8 units
4. The elective courses denoted by the letter (E), are:
FSC 714, 726, 727, 729, 738, 746, 751
Each student may register for up to five electives.

Determination
of examination results
1. All
courses shall be assessed on the basis of a maximum mark of 100 and the pass
mark shall be 40.
2. Candidates must be credited with a minimum of 46 units, which must
include the units for the Project, in order to qualify for the award of the MInfSc
degree.
3. Candidates must pass all compulsory courses and at least four units
of the required courses.
4. All compulsory courses, four units of required courses and the best
units of the remainder, up to 46 units, shall be used to compute the Weighted
Average Mark to one decimal place.
5. The list of successful candidates for the MInfSc degree shall be
classified as follows:
Eligible to proceed to PhD registration;
Eligible to proceed to MPhil/PhD registration;
Eligible to proceed to MPhil registration; and
Eligible for the MInfSc degree only.
