Dr Mutawakilu Adisa TIAMIYU obtained B.Sc and M.Sc
degrees in Economics from the University of Ibadan in 1979 and 1984; and the MLIS and Ph.D
(Information Science) from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, in 1986 and 1990.
Between 1973 and 1984 he worked at various levels in the public service of Kwara State,
Nigeria, in the areas of development planning, and project analysis, monitoring and
evaluation.
He is currently Senior Lecturer at the Africa
Regional Centre for Information Science (ARCIS), University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he
specializes in Management Information Systems, Economics of Information, and Data banking
systems. He has taught at postgraduate, undergraduate and sub-degree diploma levels at
ARCIS, at the School of Library and Information Science, University of Western Ontario,
Canada (1989/90), and at the Department of Library and Archival Studies, University of
Ghana (as visiting scholar, 1997-99), in courses including computer fundamentals,
management of information resources, computerized information retrieval, office and
library automation, research methods, information products and services, and social
science information sources. He was Acting Director of ARCIS between August 2000 and April 2004.
He is also a Senior Research Fellow of the Centre for Econometric and Allied Research,
University of Ibadan, where he participates in socio-economic research, and the
development and use of data banks and software in support of socio-economic research,
planning and administration. He has extensive experience in the use and programming of
database management systems, automated library systems, spreadsheets, and econometric and
statistical software. He has published numerous articles in refereed international
journals, and is on the editorial board of the African Journal of Library, Archives and
Information Science.
